The old ways you've been doing things just aren't cutting it anymore. You've put in a lot of effort to change those unhelpful habits, but it feels like you're stuck in the same spot. You have been in therapy only to find yourself in a similar place to where you started. Talk therapy leaves you feeling even more vulnerable and less understood than before.
You're reaching a breaking point.
You snapped at your partner over something tiny. Daily tasks feel overwhelming - the dishes are stacking up, your clothes are scattered everywhere, and that important email is still sitting in your drafts. Painful memories from the past keep flooding back, making it hard to stay afloat. Even though life's improving, you're still stuck in old patterns, feeling trapped in the past, and wondering if things will ever get better.

FAQs
-
Trauma is when we are exposed to something too much, too fast, too soon. Without proper support, that trauma can stay trapped in our system causing ample unwanted symptoms and distress.
-
A trauma-informed approach is all about being sensitive to the experiences of trauma and how they affect individuals. It recognizes the profound effects trauma can have and aims to provide services in a way that promotes healing rather than causing further distress. It's about understanding that people may have been through tough times and making sure that our actions and services don't make things worse for them. Instead, we try to create an environment that helps them feel safe and supported as they recover.

Somatic trauma therapy is a whole-person approach to healing from trauma, focusing on the body's role in recovery. Instead of just talking about the issue, somatic therapy incorporates techniques that involve the body itself. By doing this, it addresses trauma from all angles, not just the mind. The goal is to help you alleviate the physical and emotional pain caused by trauma, ultimately freeing you from its grip and empowering you to live a fuller life!

In my trauma therapy practice, I take a somatic approach, which means you don't have to keep reliving your trauma by retelling the story over and over. Instead, we'll focus on your body's responses to the trauma. Together, we'll gently explore the sensations, images, behaviors, emotions, and meanings that arise. By doing this, we'll help your body process and integrate the difficult experiences in a way that feels safe and supportive. Through our work together, we'll build your ability to cope with both past and present challenges, empowering you to navigate life's difficulties more effectively.

The length of therapy depends on you and your unique needs and goals. For some the healing can happen quicker, for others it takes time. We always go at the pace of your system and follow its cues in order to support optimal healing. As we do this work you are in complete control of how deep we go and how long we work together. My aim is to support your flourishing through the completion of your goals.

Trauma can affect different parts of the body, depending on your experiences and how the trauma was experienced. As we navigate through your trauma together, we do so at a comfortable and gentle pace. Your body will communicate to us where it has been holding onto the trauma, and we'll follow its cues to integrate and heal.
For further insight into this topic, I recommend reading "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk MD. It's a valuable resource that delves deeper into how trauma manifests in the body and provides helpful insights into the healing process.
